Storyline : Mere Husband Ki Biwi Review
Mere Husband Ki Biwi is a light-hearted romantic comedy that follows the life of Ankur Chaddha (Arjun Kapoor), a Delhi-based professional caught between his ex-wife, Prabhleen Kaur Dhillon (Bhumi Pednekar), and his current girlfriend, Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh). The film explores love, misunderstandings, and the complexities of relationships through humor and chaos.
The story begins with Ankur and Prabhleen’s bitter divorce. Moving on, Ankur finds love in Antara, his college friend, and the two get engaged. However, trouble begins when Prabhleen meets with an accident and suffers partial amnesia, forgetting the past five years of her life. Her last memory? Ankur proposing to her!
On the advice of her doctor, Arun Mathur (Tiku Talsania), Ankur is forced to play along and live with Prabhleen to avoid worsening her mental state. This creates a rollercoaster of hilarious and emotional moments as Ankur struggles to balance his past and present relationships. Meanwhile, Antara finds herself in an awkward position, dealing with her fiancé’s ex-wife, leading to multiple comical misunderstandings.
Performances
Arjun Kapoor tries his best to bring charm to Ankur’s character, and while he excels in certain comic sequences, the overall impact of his performance remains moderate. Bhumi Pednekar shines as Prabhleen, displaying excellent comic timing and strong screen presence. Rakul Preet Singh does justice to her role as Antara, though at times, weak writing limits her character’s depth.
Supporting actors like Hars Gujral (Rehaan Qureshi) add to the film’s humor with witty one-liners. Dino Morea and Aditya Seal (Rajiv) play small but significant roles. Veteran actors like Tiku Talsania and Mukesh Rishi (as Prabhleen’s father) bring nostalgia with their impeccable performances.
Direction and Writing
Mudassar Aziz, known for films like Happy Bhag Jayegi and Pati Patni Aur Woh, attempts to recreate the magic of old-school Bollywood rom-coms. However, the screenplay feels somewhat predictable, relying heavily on tried-and-tested tropes. While the film has genuinely funny moments, some dialogues fall flat, and a few emotional sequences feel forced rather than heartfelt.
Music and Cinematography
The film’s music is decent, with “Gori Hai Kalaiyan” emerging as the most memorable song. The background score supports the comedic tone well. Cinematography, especially in the foreign locations of Glasgow, Scotland, adds freshness to the storytelling. The vibrant visuals complement the light-hearted narrative.
